Drums Lessons
Students can expect structured, engaging lessons tailored to their goals, experience level, and musical interests. Lessons focus on developing strong groove and feel, alongside foundational and advanced technique, tone and dynamics, and musical confidence. Depending on the student, lessons may also cover reading and transcription, music theory, soloing and improvisation, and ensemble playing. Jeremy teaches across a wide range of styles including reggae, dub, hip hop, funk, soul, jazz, rock, pop, indie, blues, country, folk, disco, Latin, grunge, and progressive rock.
Students receive a personalised online folder that is updated weekly with lesson notes and clear practice tasks. This folder includes a tailored mix of worksheets, exercises, and song charts, including a significant amount of material developed specifically by Jeremy to support his teaching approach and each student’s learning needs.

Jeremy Schiftan is an award-winning Melbourne-based drummer, composer, and music educator with almost 20 years’ experience working across performance, recording, touring, and teaching. A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, he has built a diverse career as a working musician, performing, recording, and collaborating across styles including reggae, dub, hip hop, funk, soul, jazz, rock, indie, pop, blues, country, folk, disco, Latin, grunge, and progressive rock.
Alongside his performance career, Jeremy has over 12 years’ experience teaching music to students of all ages and levels, both privately and in secondary school settings where he teaches individual and group lessons and runs ensembles. His teaching style is relaxed, encouraging, and well-structured, with a strong focus on groove, timing, musicality, and building confidence. Depending on the student’s interests and goals, lessons can cover technique, reading and notation, music theory, improvisation, tone, dynamics, composition, aural skills, and ensemble playing, balancing solid foundations with real-world musical application.
