Teaching students the music they love, while they learn great technique as well

Music Theory Lessons

Levels Taught: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced

Music theory is extremely useful to any musician and be very fun when taught in the right way. When I teach theory I focus on exploring 'why'. 'why' did the composer choose this chord? 'why' does this note resolve so well into this one?

I believe that theory is too often taught as a set of rules to be followed, a method which bores students and can stunt creativity. Instead I teach students how to apply theory to playing and writing the music that they love.

I'm also able to help students with preparing for the music theory section of the VCE music performance exam, the part of the subject that most students struggle with.
