Musical Theatre Lessons
Students will begin with exercises based on 'estill' teachings to gain an understanding of the physiological side of their voice. This will then be implemented in songs from the music theatre repertoire. I will provide music from a diverse range of shows spanning from the early 20th century to now. I also welcome students to bring in their own repertoire or song suggestions they are interested in working on. Students usually spend somewhere between 1-6 weeks on a song, or longer if they are looking to perform it for something. Once the student and I are pleased with the song, I will film or voice record the piece to show the student's progression of work over their time with me.
Musical Theatre is where my voice personally sits best, so I take pride in teaching others something I love so much. I am currently in a professional show, Aspects of Love at Hayes Theatre Co. as an onstage swing. I completed my AMEB Grade 8 Musical Theatre exam with a High Distinction (A+). I have been a lead in 18 musicals since the age of 5, including Ariel in The Little Mermaid with Stage Artz, Maria in The Sound of Music and Kira in Xanadu. I have completed a Diploma of Musical Theatre, and have worked as a children's entertainer for many years. I have been highly trained as an actress, learning at NIDA, ATYP, Screenwise and AIPA. In 2017, I won an international scholarship for the Hollywood Immersive through Starnow out of 12,911 people worldwide, which sent me to LA for training at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. This acting training has provided me with the skills to teach musical theatre specifically, not just singing.
When it comes to musical theatre, I believe the most important thing is 'telling the story'. So students will learn to understand what they are singing about and provide meaning to every piece they sing, whilst using correct vocal technique.
I would love to teach you so please do get in touch if you are interested. In terms of vocal styles - this is just a background about each style, however I am more than happy to conduct general singing lessons where we work on all styles.
Teaching since July 2018
Teaches students aged 5 to 90
Hi! My name is Annelise and I would love to teach you or your kids to sing. I am currently working in a professional musical, Aspects of Love at the Hayes Theatre in Sydney. I have completed the Grade 8 AMEB Musical Theatre Vocal Exam as well as Grades 6-8 of the Trinity Classical Vocal Exams. I have been playing the piano since the age of 5 and have completed Grade 4 Musicianship and Music Craft. I also achieved a Band 6 in HSC Music 2 and Music Extension with Vocal Performance. I trained weekly with the highly respected and renowned, Peter Bodnar for 5 years.
As a child, I was part of the Sydney Children's Choir, touring with the group to Europe for a month, performing as the children's ensemble in operas at the Sydney Opera House and singing at numerous VIP and televised events, making me highly aware of the needs children have specifically when it comes to singing. In the past I have worked as a children's entertainer for 'Fairy and the Frog', which has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to work with kids. In high school, I was also appointed the leadership title of 'Year 7 ambassador' due to my bubbly nature and interest in working with young people.
When it comes to singing, I strongly believe in the importance of balancing technique, musicality and truth/performance. I have obtained the acting skills required to pass on this understanding of performance to my students. In 2017, I won the international Starnow scholarship for the Hollywood Immersive, out of 12, 911 people, which sent me to LA for training at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. Through lessons with me, you will gain an understanding of both technical 'estill' teachings as well as learning how to 'tell a story'.
I would love to help you along this journey, if you are interested do get in touch and I would be happy to talk more about lessons, my background or to answer any questions you may have!
