Cello Lessons
I teach students of any age and any level, from beginner to advanced. I prepare students for AMEB exams, auditions or competitions, or simply for the satisfaction of learning a challenging lifelong skill! My focus is on helping students understand and fully immerse themselves in the language of music, while at the same time building a reliable and effective technical foundation.

Hello! My name is Michael and I have been teaching cello privately, online and in Brisbane schools since 2017. I am currently pursuing my Masters in Hamburg (there’s always more to learn about the cello!), and I am excited to now offer flexible online lessons. Until June this year I was a cello teacher at St Johns Anglican College, Westside Christian College and Good News Lutheran School. In addition, I was the cello tutor at the Creative Generation MOST orchestral camp in 2021, and an assistant with the Western Suburbs String Orchestra in 2018.
As a cellist I have performed in Brisbane with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Q, Queensland Youth Symphony, Ensemble Cherubim, and in many different venues as a soloist or in small groups, such as City Hall and St Johns Cathedral. I have performed several times with the Australian Youth Orchestra, including in Germany, the Netherlands, France and China during their International Tour. As an academy participant of various chamber music festivals, I have performed in the USA, Canada and Germany. Within Australia I have performed at the Australian Chamber Music Festival in Townsville, Stradbroke Island Chamber Music Festival and Musica Viva Festival in Sydney. With the Stanley Quartet I performed live on 4MBS radio during their Beethoven Marathon in 2020.
During my time at the Queensland Conservatorium I was fortunate to be awarded prizes including the Brisbane Club Award, Piatti Prize, Vada Jefferies Bach Prize, Basil Jones Sonata Prize, 4MBS Chamber Music Prize, Owen Jefferies Prize, QCGU Postgraduate Prize as well as the Sir Samuel Griffith Scholarship. In addition I was given the opportunity to perform Schumann’s Cello Concerto with the Conservatorium Symphony in 2019. I am very grateful to have received guidance from excellent teachers, including Trish Dean, Meta Weiss, Molly Kadarauch and Melissa Dineen.
