I teach percussion with an emphasis on developing fundamental percussion techniques and reading ability. The instruments covered are: snare drum, drum kit, tuned percussion, timpani and hand percussion. Lessons are for approximately 35 minutes and include review of material from the last lesson and impute of new material.
At the start of each term, I always discuss with students the goals that they would like to achieve with their lessons. These goals are written out!

Ross is a graduate from the Victorian College of the Arts and the University of Southern Queensland. From 1978 to 1989, he was a percussionist with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and taught privately. In 1990 he moved to teaching full-time at Villanova College and then with Education Queensland. Ross retired from Education Queensland in 2014 and is developing his private teaching practice. He has performed in many genres, from Rock Bands, Big Bands, Army Bands, Symphony Orchestras and Recording Studio Bands.
I approach percussion pedagogy from initially the snare drum as the basic instrument, leading to tuned percussion and other hand percussion. I deal with the fundamentals which require regular daily practice. However, I can develop a program of lessons to suit your personal needs and interests, from learning to play for fun to undertaking accredited examinations like AMEB or preparing for tertiary entrance.
