I have studied to a Post Graduate level in Flute in Brisbane, Hong Kong and Nuremberg. I have experience teaching students of all levels from beginner to University level over a period of 34 years. My students have prepared for external examinations, auditions and senior music/music extension. I have broadened my teaching areas over the last 5 years to include Oboe and Bassoon. I believe in life long learning and take opportunities to continue to develop my skills as a teacher through lessons, masterclass attendance, concert going and maintaining connections with other musicians and teachers.
I have a passion for teaching music, nurturing students and gently guiding them towards their goals. In lessons I like to include: repertoire from examination syllabus covering tone, technique, rhythm, breathing, phrasing, articulation, intonation, vibrato, dynamics, musical style and expression. I value sharing historical background for repertoire, using aural training to assist with rhythm and encouraging musical communication whilst performing.
I am supportive, encouraging and accommodating in nature; am open and honest and a good communicator. I am comfortable teaching students of all levels, ages and abilities; students from different cultural backgrounds and students with learning difficulties.
