Music Theory Lessons

Levels Taught: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced

Do you play music but want to learn more about how Music actually works?
Do you know some basic chords but want to learn how to play more interesting and exciting chord progressions?
Would you like to write music for a band or ensemble, but lack the skills required?
I can help you understand how to harness the mechanics of music to create what you hear in your mind or what you’ve heard on recordings.
“What’s that chord?”
“What’s that rhythm?”
“How do they do that?”
The answers lie within an understanding of music theory and an ability to really hear what’s being performed or imagined.
I can teach you this vital skill, from beginner songwriters to tertiary musicians wanting to write or play their favourite music, or create their own.

I am a Monash and VCA Music degree (with honours) graduate guitarist with an extended catalogue of performance, recording, composing and ensemble work.
I’ve been teaching for over 10 years along side my gigging and recording work, and really love passing the joy I get from making music along to other people, especially students!
Anyone wanting to take their playing and understanding of music to the next level is encouraged to get in touch with me. I do song writing, music reading, music theory, ensemble/band direction, transcribing and improvisation focused lessons depending on the needs and pursuits of the student.
I you want to get into a music degree but need help with auditioning, or don’t know where to start, get in contact!
All styles and levels welcome.
From rock to jazz, techno to fingerstyle, hip-hop and soul through to prog or metal.
