Trumpet Lessons
By using a deep knowledge of trumpet technique I aim to improve students' skills in order to allow them to achieve their personal goals on the instrument. Whether this be a beginner learning to play their first notes, or a more advanced player improving their technique and ability, my goal is always to foster an enjoyable learning environment that develops skills and allows students to make the music they want to make.

Teaching experience
In 2017 I began teaching regular trumpet students with Canberra Music Tuition, and in my time there I have taught all levels; from absolute beginners up to intermediate and advanced students, including those working on AMEB and ABRSM gradings. I have taught students ranging from various age groups including primary and high-school students, as well as adults. In 2022 I started a master’s of secondary teaching at the University of Canberra, which informs my teaching and the ways in which I work with students.
My Approach to Teaching
I use a deep understanding of instrument technique to build students’ playing from the ground-up. By focussing on the fundamentals of technique I aim to improve students’ ability to play not just specific pieces, but their ability on the instrument as a whole. This does not mean, however, that I am solely focused on technique. I use technique and technical training as a means to guide students to the goals they want to achieve, whether this be gradings, personal enjoyment, ensemble work or any other application of their instrument. My goal when teaching is to encourage and aid students in reaching their goals, and have fun doing it.
My Personal Music Experience
I have been playing the trumpet since 2009, where I began learning with the Instrumental Music Program in Canberra. Over the years I have played played trumpet, bass and EWI, both solo, and in ensembles such as the IMP Senior Concert and Jazz Bands, the Connexion Big Band, the Capital Breakfast Club, and the House of Thieves. I regularly fills in for other ensembles in Canberra also, and play in independently organised small ensembles.
In 2016 I completed ABRSM grade 8 qualifications in Trumpet performance and achieved a result in the highest grade-band; distinction. I graduated from the ANU school of music in 2021, with composition and theory as my primary majors, receiving High Distinction marks in these courses.
In 2023, I am a Resident Artist with Canberra Youth Theatre, acting as resident composer and sound designer. Independently I compose, record and produce original music, released under my own name, Patrick Haesler. To date, I have released 8 albums and numerous other smaller releases including producing local Canberra musician System Strength’s debut album.
