By using a deep knowledge of trumpet technique I aim to improve students' skills in order to allow them to achieve their personal goals on the instrument. Whether this be a beginner learning to play their first notes, or a more advanced player improving their technique and ability, my goal is always to foster an enjoyable learning environment that develops skills and allows students to make the music they want to make.Show More Show Less

Teaches students aged 12+
In 2017 I took up a trumpet tutor position at local tutition centre, teaching between 4 and 7 students on a regular basis, including beginners, as well as those working on AMEB and ABRSM gradings. Students who have completed grading have achieved high results. I have taught students ranging from various age groups including primary and high-school students, as well as adults. I also teach private, independently organised trumpet students. Since 2015 I have been a trumpet section tutor for the Telopea Park School band’s yearly band camp.
My Approach to Teaching
I use a deep understanding of trumpet technique to build students' playing from the ground-up. By focussing on the fundamentals of technique I aim to improve students ability to play not just specific pieces, but their ability on the instrument as a whole. This does not mean, however, they I am solely focused on technique. I use technique and technical training as a means to guide students to the goals they want to achieve, whether this be gradings, personal enjoyments, ensemble work or any other application of their instrument. My goal when teaching is to encourage and aid students in reaching their goals, and have fun doing it.
My Personal Music Experience
I have been playing the trumpet since 2009, where I began learning with the Instrumental Music Program in Canberra. Over the years I have played both solo, and in ensembles such as the IMP Senior Concert and Jazz Bands, the Connexion Big Band and the Capital Breakfast Club (fka Griffin Band) .I regularly fill in for other ensembles in Canberra also, and play in independently organised small ensembles.
In 2016 I completed ABRSM grade 8 qualifications in Trumpet performance and achieved a result in the highest grade-band, distinction. Since the start of 2017 I have studied music at the ANU, with composition and theory as my primary majors, receiving High Distinction marks in these courses. Here I have studied trumpet at the ANU under the tuition of both Miroslav Bukovsky and Justin Lingard. Independently I compose, record and produce original music, releasing it online through platforms such as Bandcamp, Spotify and iTunes. To do this, I use trumpet along with my other instruments bass, keyboards and EWI.
