Flute is a beautiful instrument that can be very fun to learn. For beginner flute players, we will focus on posture, correct breathing techniques and sound production. Together, the student and I will establish achievable goals that ensure the learning experience is fun, and ensure measurable progress can be seen (and heard!).
For students at the intermediate level, focus on tone control, vibrato and dynamics will be at the forefront of lesson plans. Because the foundation has been laid, intermediate flute players are able to push expressive boundaries and experiment with creating beautiful and unique music. We will work together to pick repertoire that the student wants to play while promoting musical development. For students who are interested, working towards an AMEB exam can be the focus.
Teaching since November 2018
Teaches students aged 4 to 15
Hi there! My name is Elyssa and I am a classical trained Flutist and pianist. I expect to complete my Bachelor of Music specialising in Classical Flute Performance from Monash University in December 2018. I have completed my Grade 8 AMEB flute exam with Honours in 2017. I have been an active member of music groups such as the Monash University Wind Symphony, Monash University Flute Ensemble, and the Melbourne Youth Music Wind Symphony. I have also completed the Grade 8 Piano Certificate from the Royal Conservatory of Music Canada with Honours.
Having grown up in Canada, I bring unique perspectives and approaches to music performance and teaching. I believe that every student possesses unique musical needs and has unique goals which they hope to reach. I hope to establish an understanding of these needs and goals to help the student in a manner that will promote the most positive experience and greatest amount of growth that aligns with their needs and expectations. I am incredibly passionate about sharing music in a positive and enjoyable manner to help create life-long music lovers.
I have studied many relevant units in my Bachelor of Music, such as 'The Art of Teaching Music', Psychology and Conducting which have added to my knowledge of effective teaching.
