Piano Lessons
I teach piano, clarinet, saxophone and music theory one to one. I have also taught woodwind in group sessions. I teach in 30 minute sessions mainly but some of my students have 45 to 60 minute lessons. I teach all styles of music but mainly light jazz, contemporary and classical. A normal lesson would consist of 5 mins on scales, 20 mins on pieces and 5 mins on theory. I use scales because they are easy to remember and are very important for developing technique. I also include theory because aids in student's ability to read music.
Any student of mine gets an all-round appreciation of music not just being trained to play an instrument. They also get to play in many different styles. All my students get the chance to play in concerts which I make interesting not just for the students but for parents too!

Teaches students aged 7+
I have been teaching instrumental music now for over 20 years. In the last 6 years I have maintained a studio of around 40 (mainly piano) students in schools and private homes. They are from ages 6 to adult and beginner to advanced. I really believe that music should be an integral part of early learning and therefor make it as interesting and fun loving as possible to keep them engaged. I like to get to know my students and relate to what they are going through. I have had some students with learning issues and found that music has helped them believe in themselves.
I'm quick in identifying whether a student has talent and if so I like to keep them interested in a whole lot of different repertoire. Many of my students have achieved excellent results in exams at school and university set exams (such as the Australian Music Examinations Board).
I believe that performance is a big part of music so I always encourage students to perform in a concert I hold twice every year.
I spent five years studying music at a tertiary level achieving a Diploma of Music (majoring in clarinet) and an A.Mus.A in piano. I also completed 2 years studying an Associate Diploma in Music Teaching.
Many students and parents describe me as pleasant and easy to get along with but I expect some effort from week to week. I believe that all students should enjoy their lessons and the best way to do that is by them getting some practice done at home.
