Teaching since 2009
Teaches students aged 5+
I have been teaching piano since High School whilst also completing my piano grades via ABRSM (Royal School of Music). I have played piano since the age of five and am self taught on electric bass, electric guitar and acoustic guitar. I have been in many original bands over the years and also performed as a session musician for musicals. My other achievements include, writing for the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra and winning song writing competitions in New Zealand.
I am firstly a classically trained pianist but have spent many years in recording studios and have the ability to teach students about keyboards/synth programs e.g. MainStage, if they are interested. I like to think of music lessons as being all encompassing (theoretical and practical) and believe that whilst piano grades are a great achievement, being able to play by ear, with feeling and enjoyment is also important. I try to tailor lessons to suit the learning style of my students as I get to know them.
I offer both 30 minute lessons (most common) and hour lessons. If you wish to do the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) exams you will need extra time to cover practical and theory components as you progress. I have had great success with the students whom I have entered in AMEB exams, with several of them gaining A+ in practical performances and representing their school in different musical competitions throughout Queensland and Australia.
