Classical Voice Lessons

Levels Taught: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced

Sarah specialises in classical voice instruction for young adults. She has prepared students for successful auditions to be voice majors and minors at the university level. Her students have also been successful in competitions and auditions for a wide range of musical performances. Sarah’s vocal students benefit from learning a healthy voice technique that can be applied to any vocal genre they wish to pursue. In addition, basic music theory and sight singing (using solfeggio) is also offered, as well as use of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) to facilitate singing in foreign languages.

With extensive operatic stage experience in America, Australia, and Europe, Sarah has performed numerous lyric soprano roles, and also a range of world premieres and experimental pieces. Highlights include singing the roles of Donna Elvira, Countess, Mimì, Donna Anna, Second Lady, Offenbach’s Eurydice, and Cimarosa’s Elisetta; performing in Strauss’s Elektra with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra; singing oratorio such as Messiah, Elijah, and Carmina Burana; and creating roles in Sydney Chamber Opera’s premieres of Mayakovsky and Victory Over the Sun (for the 2016 Sydney Biennale.) Sarah’s collaborative work in creating new and experimental music-based theater has been featured in London’s Opera in the City Festival, Australia’s SHH Centre 4 Hybrid Arts, and also in unique sacred and historical spaces world-wide. She has been recognized in vocal competitions in America and Australia, and has been awarded prize and study grant money by the Joan Sutherland & Richard Bonynge Foundation.

She has been trained world-class teachers who have been instrumental in the development of singers currently performing roles at opera houses such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, and La Scala in Milan.

Music Teacher in Classical Voice, Flute, and Piano

Sarah has 14 years of experience teaching private and group music lessons in flute, piano, and singing to children, teens/college-aged students, and adults. Sarah loves to facilitate the discovery process for students and the confidence that comes with playing or singing well. She finds it rewarding to see students understand new concepts as she looks for ways to communicate ideas in a creative, individually-tailored way.

Flautist

As a flute tutor, Sarah draws on her extensive experience and rigorous training as a flautist in the Liszt Ferenz Music School in Hungary. Sarah trained under the tutelage of the principal flautist of the Gyor Philharmonic Orchestra, while also participating in numerous Hungarian flute competitions. A skilled ensemble leader, Sarah was also featured a premiere performance for flute quartet, as well as a the premiere recording of Zempléni László’s “Quartet for flute and percussion.” Whether you are an absolute beginner, or developed flautist, Sarah can help you learn to play beautifully, expressively, and with great skill.


Opera Singer

Piano Teacher

Having studied piano as a secondary instrument, Sarah is passionate about helping singers and instrumentalists develop their piano skills to empower themselves musically. Sarah is skilled at showing patterns and connections between the accompaniment and solo instrument, and can help solo instrumentalists and singers to learn their music more comprehensively. Sarah also has experience teaching beginner piano students who are still discovering their music goals.

Education

Sarah has earned a Bachelors Degree in Music and in Sociology at Greenville College. She has also earned a Masters of Music in Vocal Performance at Ithaca College and a Masters of Opera Studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
