Beginner lessons will cover the basics such as playing posture, correct hand positioning, correct embouchure, articulation and dynamics and breath control, ensuring students don't develop bad playing habits. Students who show advanced playing skill can expect to be taught more about the subtleties of the instrument and musicality in general, including tricks to improve intonation, development of the altissimo register, multiphonics.
Students interested in playing jazz can also learn theory for improvised soloing and jazz-specific articulations and other techniques.
Teaching since May 2017
Teaches students aged 9+
I began learning saxophone through the QLD state school instrumental program and quickly fell in love with the instrument. I challenged my playing ability through the Australian Music Examinations Board and earned my Associate Diploma of performance in 2009 while still in High School.
I have performed as a soloist for the Brisbane Municipal Concert Band & Brisbane City Big Band. I am a multi-instrumentalist with the band The Steele Syndicate and briefly played with the reggae band Darky Roots.
My aim as a music tutor is always to ensure that the individual aspects of performance and music theory are understood as deeply as possible so as to cultivate a musician who does more than reads notes on a page, and instead opens their ears and embraces the nuances of musicality.
