Lessons will be spent partially on studying scores and orchestration/arrangement texts, and partially on arrangements and exercises that the student has been working on between lessons. I always support students to pursue their own creative interests, and will go the extra mile to help them find ways to hear real-life musicians play what they have written.Show More Show Less

Teaches students aged 8+
Hello, I’m a music student with a passion for teaching. I teach all brass, music theory, composition/arranging, some woodwinds, and can help with AMEB.
My Teaching Philosophy:
I believe the best learning comes from curiosity. I always try to find something in students' area of study that excites them, so they continue thinking and learning after the lesson is over. I like to help my students discover music that intrigues or inspires them, and I encourage them to wonder about things – like the fascinating way their instrument works. It’s amazing how much a student can figure out by themselves when they are curious about it!
I’m a trombonist and composer with 12 years of musical experience, 5 of teaching, and a Bachelor of Music with Honours majoring in Music Learning and Composition from UQ. I play and teach all brass and some woodwind instruments, as well as music theory, composing and arranging. I have experience playing with orchestras like the Queensland Youth Symphony, concert bands like the Queensland Wind Orchestra, jazz bands like the University of Queensland Big Band, brass bands, chamber ensembles, new-music groups, and solo. I have also composed music for all of these kinds of ensembles, and have had pieces performed by members of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Southern Cross Soloists, and many student and community ensembles. In my spare time, I like to make things like sculptures and instruments.
