Drums Lessons

Levels Taught: Beginner, Intermediate

Learning drums involves a long process of slowly learning more and more complex rhythms and techniques, all while gradually perfecting your overall rhythm. A beginner's lesson will start with warmup techniques to loosen and stretch hands and wrists then rudimentary techniques and basic rhythms will be covered. This will involve slow, basic drum patterns often reinforced by a metronome to ensure the student stays on beat. Aside from this, it's then time to get a bit more funky and learn some basic drum beats e.g. a standard rock, jazz or hip hop beat that could be used when playing in a band. My lessons can be tailored to each student depending on current technical skill, and also learning outcomes e.g. if the student wants to learn how to play rock drums, then there's no use going through jazz rhythms.

I'm a 21 year old musician with a lifelong background in piano and drums. I've completed up to grade 7 in AMEB piano and up to grade 4 in theory. After spending a lot of my life learning from other teachers, I've become very interested in teaching students of my own. I've had various experience working with children, working in Sunday schools, holiday clubs and recently 2 childcare centres. So while I'm proficient at interacting and caring for children, I'd like to make the switch from carer to educator, passing on my musical skills! I currently have a paid blue card and possess a vehicle in order to travel to students, so I should be pretty well set up to get involved with this business if there is an opportunity for me. Whether you're looking to get the kids involved in music, or you're looking to pick up a few tricks yourself, I can structure lessons for almost any student!
