An emerging flautist, Cassie was a semi-finalist in the Australian Flute Festival Competition in 2017 where she performed for Michael Cox, Leone Buyse and Julien Beaudiment. She was awarded the Donald Tugby Music Performance Prize in 2015 and was a finalist in the Queensland Flute Guild’s James Carson Memorial Prize for 2015 and 2016. Cassie achieved her Associate of Music in 2012 and her Licentiate of Music in 2013.
Currently in her fourth year at The University of Queensland, she is studying a Bachelor of Music (Honours), majoring in performance with Patrick Nolan. This semester, Cassie is thoroughly enjoying working as an intern with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and performing with the Southern Cross Soloists for the Bangalow Music Festival. She also plays with the University of Queensland Symphony Orchestra and the Queensland Youth Symphony with which she has had the opportunity to perform at prestigious venues across Brisbane together with tours of rural north Queensland.
Cassie’s travels to Europe earlier in the year allowed her to visit flute classes and have lessons with world renowned flute pedagogues such as Felix Renggli, Emily Beynon, Thies Roorda, Juliette Hurel and Davide Formisano. She has also received masterclasses with artists such as Claire Chase, Tim Munro and Melissa Doecke. This experience in Europe has opened her eyes to the possibilities of flute playing and she would love to return for further study.
If you’re ever up early enough, you’ll catch a glimpse of Cassie on her bike with her flute riding to the various practice rooms around Brisbane!
