The first time Cassie picked up the flute, instantly her musical ambitions were ignited. From this moment, she was on a whirlwind adventure that saw her furthering her passion for music.

Graduating from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours) with Patrick Nolan, Brisbane flautist, Cassie Slater is currently in her first year at ANAM under the guidance of Virginia Taylor.

Whilst at UQ, she was a semi-finalist in the Australian Flute Festival Competition in 2017, awarded the O'Brien Family Prize, the Donald Tugby Music Performance Prize, a finalist in the Queensland Flute Guild’s James Carson Memorial Prize for 2015 and 2016 and a University of Queensland Dean’s Scholar. Cassie’s professional highlights include performances with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra as a part of her internship, augmenting and performing as a Next Generation Artist with the Southern Cross Soloists during their concert series and at the Bangalow Music Festival, and collaborating with Grammy award winning flautist, Tim Munro.

In 2017, Cassie also travelled to Europe for lessons with world renowned flute pedagogues such as Felix Renggli, Emily Beynon, Thies Roorda, Juliette Hurel and Davide Formisano. She was excited to return to Europe and China at the end of the year to tour with the Queensland Youth Symphony - her fourth year with the orchestra.

This year, Cassie has performed with the Australian Youth Orchestra as a part of their National Music Camp and February season in Adelaide and Melbourne and she is excited to return to Adelaide for the flute symposium with Michael Cox.

If you're ever awake early enough, you will spot Cassie on her bike riding to the various practice rooms and concert halls!
