About

  • Female

  • Teaching since January 1990

  • Teaches students aged 10+

Since graduating from the Queensland Conservatorium in 1990 I have taught at several private schools around Brisbane including: Anglican Church Grammar School (Churchie), St Margaret's Anglican Girls' School, Northpine Christian College and Ormiston College where I am currently employed. I have also worked for the Education Department and for a number of private music schools e.g. Forte School of Music where I specialised in teaching music and movement to children aged from 3 years (and above).

My lessons are tailored to the individual student's needs. I have taught all ages and levels of experience including beginner adults. Exam preparation is an important part of my studio. I have successfully prepared students for all examination boards (AMEB, Trinity College, ABRSM etc.) with outstanding results; however, I am very happy to teach without the pressure of exams if preferred. I believe a holistic music education is important. Although theory and musicianship are a part of every lesson, I also offer these subjects independently if required.

Performance is a big part of learning an instrument. Why do we learn music if not to let people hear it? Concerts, eisteddfods and other competitions are all opportunities to grow as musicians and to practise the performance aspect of learning an instrument if so desired. As a conductor of concert bands, orchestras and smaller ensembles for many years, I am aware of the commitment these school/community groups demand and I am happy to assist students with this part of their learning. After consulting with the student/parent at the beginning of the process, I will plan a program designed specifically for the student to ensure the best possible outcomes with clear, achievable goals which will inspire confidence and foster a life-long love of music.
